Education aims at the rearing up of disciplined, efficient and God fearing citizens. All the above qualities are of paramount importance as far as individual as well as national life is concerned. The need of the hour is to bring up good citizens; who would put others interests before their own interests and would willingly contribute their mite for the well being of the fellow citizens. It is with these noble ideals in mind that the school was founded in June 1965 by Chevalier T THOMAS, the Founder. To impart quality education to the children of the lower middle class families in an area like North Madras is another objective of the school.

      The St. Mary's Girls Higher Secondary school branched out as an exclusively Girls school in 1983 when the pattern was changed to Tamilnadu Higher Secondary syllabus from C.B.S.E syllabus. It was functioning in the Main School Campus and was then shifted to Maryland Campus by 1985. The school has reputation of the best girls Higher Secondary school in north Chennai.

      Due to pressure from public we were constrained to open up co-education till std VIII. From 2001 onwards St. Mary's Girls' Matriculation Higher Secondary school is functioning in 37, Maduraswamy Madam Street, Perambur. The school has twin buildings with very good laboratories and spacious class rooms satisfying all conditions of stability and sanitary needs. We have a well planned pre K. G. class rooms with modern play items.

      As an alumnus of reputed academic institution of Chennai we have been the recipients of several distinctions for our outstanding performance in academics & extra curricular activities.

FACILITIES IN OUR SCHOOLS

   COMPUTER CENTRE : Nowadays computers have become part and parcel of day to day life. It is no more a luxury but a necessity. Therefore it is necessary that even a small child should have the awareness of computers and know how to use them. With this aim in mind we have set separate computer labs for primary, middle classes and another one for the High school and Hr. Sec. classes. Well qualified and experienced staff members are on the rolls giving special individual attention to each student.

   OTHER LABORATORIES : The schools have well-equipped laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The science classes in Theory and Practical are conducted by teachers of repute and rich experience.

   MEDICAL INSPECTION : We pay special attention to Health Education in value Education classes as well. First-Aid facilities are made available in the Physical Education department to attend to minor injuries. Where need be immediate medical attention is given by taking the child to the nearby medical practitioner and also keeping the parent informed. For the Healthy growth of the child Medical inspection is done on annual basis and the Medical inspection report is sent to the parent for necessary follow up.

   LIBRARY : The library is well equipped with more than 5000 volumes of books in each school for reference and study by the students. Periodicals and Magazines are also procured to cater to the needs of all levels of students and staff members.

   The school prepares the students for the state Matriculation and Higher secondary examinations in accordance with the syllabi prepared by the respective Board from Std. I to XII. The medium of instruction in all our schools is English.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

   In order to ensure the development of the total personality of the students, the school provides ample oppurtunities for all students, to engage themselves in a wide variety of co-curricular activities. These include sports and games. The following activities are motivated according to the student's talent.
